Meet Mrs. Penning:
I was born and raised in Thief River Falls, MN.  I graduated from MSUM, Moorhead with degrees in Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD); Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) as well as Cognitively Delayed (CD).  I have taught at our elementary school since 1993 as a Special Education Teacher in the area of EBD.  I earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from SMSU.

I love my job and am proud of being part of Century Elementary’s team!  My family gives me great JOY!  During the summer months, you can find me gardening, thrifting, repurposing items, spending time with family/ friends, making jewelry and working in Dorset!

Emotional  behavioral disorders is a special needs category with established patterns of one or more of the following emotional or behavioral responses:

*withdrawal or anxiety, depression, problems with mood, or feelings of self-worth;

*disordered thought processes with unusual behavior patterns and atypical communication styles; or

*aggression, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that adversely affects educational or developmental performance that is exhibited in at least three different settings (two educational settings-one other setting).

Meet Mrs. Kovach:
I started my teaching career here at Century Elementary in 2014 and I love it!  I was born and raised in Park Rapids and attended college at Bemidji State University.  After graduation, I moved to Coeur d' Alene Idaho where I worked with young children with disabilities for eight years.  I moved back to Minnesota in the summer of 2014 and have been working in the EBD program ever since!  I recently went back to school and attained my Master's degree through SMSU.  I enjoy reading, baking, and spending time with my husband and two children.
