Why we wear tennis shoes
Why we wear tennis shoes...
I require students to wear proper tennis shoes in Physical Education for a few very important reasons.
- The first reason is solely your child's safety. In Phy Ed. we participate in activities and games where we are running or otherwise moving quickly. Slick soled shoes present a threat to not only the person wearing them but their classmates as well. It only takes one person slipping and falling to cause an avalanche of accidents when we are moving about.
- Another reason I require proper shoes is for ease of movement. Movement and skills are a part of every lesson and I always ask students to give their best effort possible. I know I can move quicker or kick a ball better when I'm wearing tennis shoes that are securely on my feet. Shoes that tie stay on the feet better than velcro straps or laces that just pull tight. The kids often get frustrated with how these type of shoes perform during Phy Ed class.
- My last reason is gym preservation. Our teachers and students are very lucky to have a wonderful facility. The last thing anyone would want to see is our gym floor get scuffed by hard soled shoes. I know wear and tear will come with age and use. However, if we can prevent any unnecessary damage by taking the proper steps, such as wearing correct tennis shoes, then I'm positive we can prolong the surface in the gym.
